Double dating

To the Editors:

COMMUNITY FORUM

Cleveland seems to be a city of double dating, and I don't mean two couples going out together.

My concern is more than one event taking

place at the same time in different places. GOLDUST

Often the two events could attract the same people. For example, in April, the Human Rights Campaign will have their major fundraiser the same evening as the North Coast Men's Chorus concert. This is just an example of things that have happened in the past and will continue to go on if organizations don't begin to coordinate.

Very often looking through Charlie's Calendar I see two things going on at the same time. There are 52 weeks in a year, seven nights in a week. The gay and lesbian community in the greater Cleveland area can certainly spread things out a little better.

Some time ago, the lesbian and gay community center offered to keep a central calendar. They invited people to contact them to see what dates are open, or list events for their groups. Evidently not many people are getting the message. I spoke with Linda Malicki, the new director at the Center. She

informs me they still keep the calendar and hope people will contact the Center to check and post their dates.

So, Cleveland, let's do it! You can't dine and sing in two different places in the same night. It only takes a phone call. In case you can't find the Center's phone number, it is 216-522-1999.

Kicking out HIV+

To the Editors:

I am writing to express my views on bill 1124 which states we are going to involuntarily discharge military persons who test positive for HIV. It concerns me that our society accepts this bill without that much outrage.

OPEN PRAIRE SYNDICATE

This bill should scare all of us; we are all at risk of being diagnosed with something. Until now, however, you probably expected to be able to work until you no longer could perform your duties. In the future may we not only have to perform on the job, but also be evaluated based on our employers' prejudices of an illness we may have?

I sent a letter to the White House concerning this bill in early February. I have a copy of bill 1124, but I have not seen or heard the details of the executive order that would establish full medical benefits for the discharged service members your paper referenced in the February 9 issue. Any additional information you receive and can pass along to your readers is appreciated.
